Maimuna Renhoran, or Reka, is a lecturer at the State Fisheries Polytechnic with over 17 years of experience in academia and advocacy. Her work focuses on creating frameworks for marine protected areas in small island regions by integrating local wisdom. Her research has led to numerous publications, including journals on fisheries data analysis. Her work has also resulted in intellectual property rights for tools like a biomass content map and a heatmap of fishing locations in the Kei Islands. She is an advocate in several movements, including opposing mining activities in the Kei Islands, the Kei Women’s Movement for Peace, and a local struggle against a controversial title granted to a businessman. Reka continues to be a prominent voice in creating sustainable solutions for local communities.
